Monodon Monoceros
"Monodon monoceros" means "one tooth, one horn".
It is the scientific name for narwhals.
Narwhals live in the Arctic…around Northern Greenland, Canada in the Baffin Bay/David Straight area, Norway and Russia.
They are mind blowing. And are unicorns of the sea.
This past July, I had two different experiences with narwhals.
One was off the coast of Humboldt Glacier.
And the other was off Petermann Glacier.
In both situations, we were surprised to see them.
And super excited.
As they are rare to find.
And it is truly exciting to watch them in their element...
For me, I wanted to capture their strength and beauty.
Their muscularity, grace and elegance.
And photograph them as silhouettes and portraits.
Where one will see many layers that go beyond the surface.
I hope that you feel the joy and love of narwhals.
That I felt and feel when I think of them.
Narwhals.
They are truly f’n magic.
